Shirin Shakhesi is an Iranian-Australian animator, illustrator. She grew up in Tehran, where she studied Computer Graphic Design and Communication at Tehran institute of technology. In 2005 her commercial visual design won first award at the 5th Question Competition and in 2007 her single frame illustration for an art and security competition was officially selected and exhibited in Sharyati Gallery of Tehran.


In 2010 Shirin moved to Sydney and attended TAFE NSW - Design Centre Enmore, where she earned a diploma in Computer Graphics Technology and was given International Student of Excellence Award. An early interest in cartoons and animation led to the desire to create movement and life for her art and illustrations. In 2014 Shirin moved to Melbourne and began her further studies in animation at Swinburne university of technology. There, under the mentorship of Adam Elliot, she learned both theoretical training as well as a wide range of technical skills.

 

Whilst at Swinburne, she collaborated as the leader in art department on making “Citrus”, a short animation which screened at MIAF and AIFF. In 2020 Her short animation "Petrichor" has been officially selected in EFFY 2020 , CIFF 2020, L-DUB FF 2020 and also in La Guarimba FF 2020. She also collaborated with many other great artists  and festivals like Mohsen Namjoo in ' On the String of the tear’s bow 2018 ', Lisa Robert in 'Voices from the Southern Ocean'  and 'Lunar Time' 2019 and Midsumma Festival 2020 in 'The Sky After Rain' .

 

Shirin is currently studying a Bachelor of Fine art in Animation at Victorian college of Art.
